GrantLee's Florida Brigade Restaurant Update

Some of you might remember that a while back I wrote a review about a Civil War themed restaurant called GrantLee's Florida Brigade Tavern and Grill. Overall it was a disaster to put it mildly. You can read the review here and be sure to take a look at a couple of follow up comments that were left; none by the management you will notice. Well, less than four months later I have some updated news for you that was posted on their Facebook page today:

TO ALL THE LOYAL CUSTOMERS: We are sorry to say that GrantLee's Florida Brigade is officially closed for business... due to lack of income/business, we regret to inform everyone that we are closing the doors for good tonight. We thank all of you for your continued support! We worked hard day in and day out to make this place work, but at the end of the day: it wasn't enough. Next year we are opening something a little smaller, in a better location. See everyone around!! (and a special thanks to all our very LOYAL employees that stuck it out with us up until the end!! We cant say thanks enough to you guys!!)

That is correct, they made it less than four months before having to close the doors. Unfortunately for them there were a lot of strikes working against them: a location that forced folks to drive by many other options before getting there, poor food, poor service, poor management based upon other reviews I have read, a most unusual name that really meant nothing to those not interested in the Civil War and was completely ridiculous to those that are interested, and did I say bad food and service. The owners supposedly operated another restaurant (in Maine if I remember correctly but I could be wrong on that) but based upon this I find it hard to believe. It's really too bad considering there is not a good bar-b-que restaurant around here. This place COULD have done better. Of course it SHOULD have had good food and service.

Thinking back to the parade of restaurants that have tried to operate in this building all I can say is: NEXT!

You know, its pretty sad that u have nothing better to do with your time then to downgrade a hard working family that (unlike many people) actually had the guts to follow the American dream and open a business. Have you stopped to think that there is a GOOD FAMILY behind all those harsh statements you have made publicly on the internet?!? No probably not. I worked for that family, since day one. yes, it started off a bit rocky (just like any other family restaurant) in which I have helped open a few... But once they finally found a dependable crew, and a good kitchen staff, they were doing great. And 99% of the guest comment cards were amazing. But too late. By then, they had already dumped everything.into the place (which was a bad location to begin with) and they lost everything. This family was there from open to close, 7 days a week. I havr never seen people that worked so hard. So for you to publicly bash them on the world wide web is pitiful and you should be ashamed of yourself. I feel sorry for people like you. Your life must be so pathetic for you to have to bad mouth hard working people who deserve respect, to make yourself feel superior. And you think you're such a "civil war genius" then you should've asked to speak to the owner, Richard Bates. Because I would've loved to hear you say to his face that he didn't know anything about the theme and that his restaurant didn't belong there. But.instead, you felt it necessary to run home to your computer screen and type out your frustrations with someone else's business. Get a life. People like you are a waist of valuable space on this planet.

  2. Well, I am glad you enjoyed working there. You did not however address a single concern that I posted in my original review. Nor did you address the person that commented who had a verifiable case of food poisoning. The problem wasn't that the owners didn't work hard. They may have, they may not have. Again, read the comments from others on my first posting. Some people. do not think the owners worked hard. What they surely did not do based upon my visit and that of others was TRAIN people. The service was poor and so was the food. Writing the original review didn't make me feel better. It made me feel like I told the truth. Apparently others felt the same way or the restaurant would still be in business. The WASTE (not waist) of valuable space was apparently GrantLee's.
